FIBERGLASS REINFORCED PLASTIC GRATING

1. SCOPE
This specification covers the requirement for a molded, glass reinforced, resin bonded grating.

2.0 MATERIALS
The grating shall be constructed of continuous glass fibers which have been encapsulated with thermo setting resin. The molded grating is then heat cured obtaining maximum chemical resistance and physical properties.

2.1.0 The fiberglass grating will have a grid size of _____” X ______” and ______” thick.

2.1.1. The resin system shall be (Designer to choose one):
(a) VEX - Vinyl ester, Chemical Proof Fire Retardant Plus, Class I ( rated at 10 or less )
(b) VE - Vinyl ester, Chemical Proof Fire Retardant, Class I ( rated at 25 or less )
(c) IS - Isophthalic, Industrial Grade Fire Retardant, Class I ( rated at 25 or less )
(d) ISF - Isophthalic, Food Grade Fire Retardant, Class II ( rated 30 or less )
(e) OR - Orthophthalic, Architectural Grade Fire Retardant, Class I ( rated at 25 or less )
(f) ORN - Orthophthalic, Architectural Grade Non Fire Retardant, Not rated.

2.1.2 All grating except ORN will be Fire Retardant and will have a minimum flame spread rating of 25 for Class I and 30 for Class II, when tested, according to ASTM E84 tunnel test, and is considered “self-extinguishing ” when tested by ASTM D-635.

2.2 The grating will be one piece construction, in a panel using the molded process, and continuous glass fibers & encapsulated with thermo setting resin containing a UV inhabitor for maximum ultra violet protection in exterior applications.

Grating shall be suitable for a concentrated load of ______lbs/ft² with a 1% deflection when supported on ______centers. ( See deflection data in Dragon Grating’s brochure to establish standards. Designer to complete based on desired comfort levels - maximum should be 0.5” or 1% of span, whichever is attained first. )

2.3 Standard panel sizes are 3’ x 10’, 4’ x 12’ and 5’ x 10’ as required. Other sizes available upon requests.


2.4 Molded grating will be standard concave surface, or optional silica grit-top surface. Nominal thickness of the grit shall be 3/16”.

2.5 Standard colors are:

VEX : Vinyl ester Chemical Proof Fire Retardant Plus - Dark Gray
VE : Vinyl ester Chemical Proof Fire Retardant - Dark Gray
IS : Isophthalic Industrial Grade Fire Retardant - Dark Green
ISF : Isophthalic Food Grade Fire Retardant - Yellow
OR : Orthophthalic Architectural Grade Fire Retardant - Light Gray
ORN : Orthophthalic Architectural Grade Non Fire Retardant - Green
( Other colors available upon requests )

2.6 All panels will fastened to support members with hold down attachments fabricated from stainless steel. Designer to choose :

M-clips - hold down clip
L -clips - hold down clip
C -clips - panel joining clip

2.7 All cut edges to be sealed with resin of the same grade as specified in Section 2.1.1.

3.0 FABRICATION
Fabricator of the grating will include the submittal of shop drawings for approval. All cut edges of the grating will be sealed with resin.

4.0 APPROVALS
Submittal - Manufacturer shall submit his standard catalog data which includes load/deflection tables. Product samples will be supplied as requested by the engineer.
